Hobbies outside of gaming?

Outside of gaming I have a passion for music. I currently play Drums and Alto Sax and interestingly, I find the learning processes I go through when playing video games helps me excel at these instruments as well. I also try to keep up with fitness, eat healthy and hangout with my close friends.

How would your friends describe you?

I mean I could sit here and tell you how I hope they would describe me… but in reality, they’re probably just trolls. I’ll keep it simple and say I’m outgoing/sociable, caring… though probably overly emotional and creative.

Favourite place you’ve travelled?

Japan has been my favourite travel destination without a doubt. Being surrounded by video games, anime, cool tech and the beautiful scenery basically had me foaming at the mouth -  it’s a dream come true for a western otaku.

Next on your travel list?

I tend to travel not based on how beautiful the location, rather what’s happening there… for example I’ve always wanted to go to e3, which is held in Los Angeles, so I guess that’s next on my list!

Go-to music to listen/party to?

I come from a passion for metal music, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Logic recently. So, probably something in the hip-hop/rap genre with good vibes… they tend to be easy to solo over on the drums and leave ample room for my own creativity.

Who did you game with growing up?

I mostly played video games with my little brother, cousin and elementary school friends. My cousin always had the cool games/consoles before I did, so hanging out at his house was some of the most exciting memories of my childhood.

What did your parents think of your gaming?

Like most parents of my generation, they hated it. Especially my mom… most of my life has been a constant struggle to justify the time I spend playing videogames over other activities. In the past year though, thankfully, this has begun to change as I’ve started to transition my obsessive hobby into a career path.

Most memorable gaming memory?

When I was 12 years old my close buddy had the most awesome birthday party, a LAN in his basement for Halo 2 with each team sharing their own television (so no screen peeking). I remember having an absolute blast playing rockets and swords on Beaver Creek and switching over to some Smash Bros Melee in-between games. Probably one of the best memories of my late childhood.

Advice to your 15-year-old self?

Recognize your gaming potential and focus on actively learning, improving, competing and networking NOW. I wish I could have reached the level of pro gamer and built a following from the experience… but I’m happy I still have an opportunity to build a legacy, entertain and empower others while talking about the games I love.
